The Spiritual Meaning of Tinnitus

What inner voice have you been drowning out with noise?

Step 1 of 4: See the Pattern

Tinnitus is noise that comes from inside — a ringing, buzzing or humming that is always there, that no one else can hear, that drowns out the quiet.

And in mind-body philosophy, that is precisely the point: the body has generated its own noise to fill the space where something needed to be heard but wasn't.

There is a stubbornness at the root of most tinnitus. Not the aggressive kind — the quiet, persistent kind.

The 'I know what I know and I'm not ready to hear anything that challenges it' kind. A refusal to listen — to other people, to circumstances, but most significantly to the inner voice. The part of you that has been trying to tell you something for a long time.

The inner voice is persistent. It will try many ways to be heard. It speaks in gut feelings first, then in restlessness, then in dreams. If it is consistently overridden, the body sometimes creates a sound of its own — an internal noise that mirrors, quite literally, the noise the person has been making to avoid the silence where the truth lives.

What are you drowning out?

Step 2 of 4: Sit With It

  • Is there something your inner voice has been trying to tell you — that you've been consistently not listening to?

  • Are you someone who drowns out quiet with busyness, noise, screens, activity — and finds silence uncomfortable?

  • Is there a person in your life whose perspective you have been refusing to genuinely hear?

  • What are you afraid you might have to face if you got truly, completely quiet?

  • When did the tinnitus start or worsen — and what was happening internally at that time?

Step 3 of 4: Reflect To Shift

Sit with this one quietly if you can.

Write about what you think your inner voice has been trying to tell you — the thing you've been not quite ready to hear.

You don't have to act on it. You don't have to agree with it. Just write about what it might be saying, as honestly as you can.

Then ask:

What would I need to believe, or change, to be able to sit in silence without needing to fill it?

Step 4 of 4: Affirm + Embed

YOU HAVE DONE THE WORK, NOW LET THIS SETTLE IN

I am willing to listen. I create space for the quiet voice inside me — the one that knows things my louder mind is still catching up with. I release the noise I have been making to avoid what I already know. In the stillness, I am safe. In the stillness, I hear what matters.

SAY IT OUT LOUD. TWICE IF YOU NEED TO.

Tired of Googling Symptoms at Midnight?

Sound familiar?

If you're tired of Googling symptoms as they come up — at midnight, when you're too tired or sore to be trawling through multiple websites trying to piece together an answer — you're not alone.

And if you've ever reached for your mind-body reference book only to find it's not where you left it, you'll know exactly how frustrating that is.

Bodhi Cipher is the four-step process that replaces all of that.

Bodhi Cipher gives you 150 decoded conditions, available any time, for a once-off payment of around $19 USD.

No subscription, no hidden payments and absolutely no reports buried behind a 30-question quiz and a paywall!

How Bodhi Cipher Was born

My teenager was looking through my PDFs and mind-body books one day and said "Mom, why don't you just make this into an app?" — and honestly, it was the most sensible thing anyone had said to me in years.

I'd also discovered, after more than 30 years of exploring the mind-body connection for every ache, pain and illness I experienced, that a brief description and an affirmation alone weren't quite enough to create a real shift. So I started combining the emotional insight with a simple journalling prompt and then the affirmation — and the difference was remarkable.

Bodhi Cipher is what I wish I'd had in my hands every time I needed an answer at midnight.

Now you do.
